Catholic Links: Music
- A fabulous
Catholic music site I recommend to any teacher. The site allows
one to review different Catholic CDs and Tapes. Under each band
or musician, a person can read about the type of music, the issues
that it deals with, the appropriate age group, have access to the
particular groups web site, for much more information such as, a singing
rosary, reviews of books and youth forum and shop online. The
enormous information on the site would assist a teacher with planning
music and religion subjects, organizing a school mass or paraliturgy
or making recommendations to students about alternative music to enjoy.--Marisa

Jukebox
- This
is a music resource site for Catholics. The purpose of the site is
to highlight Catholic Music Artists. There is a directory of Contempory
Catholic Musicians' websites, contact information, and links to MP3
sites. It is also linked to an American Catholic music radio station
that broadcasts the 24 hours a day. -- Paulette Hill
- Catholic

all encompassing website is devoted to updating you on the latest
Catholic music available. A top 20 sellers chart is provided on a
weekly basis. The site also provides reviews and weekly spotlights
on artists and releases. CDs are available for purchase and includes
a sales section. Different sections like liturgical, traditional,
children, and seasonal will help you pinpoint exactly what type of
music you are looking for. As well as providing reviews, current articles
on musicians, appearances and points of special interest globally
are highlighted. Definitely a one stop shop for those seeking to enhance
their Catholic music collection for the classroom.--Annette Goc

Music Network
- What
a fantastic site!! This is an extensive website with categoris ranging
from contemporary, praise and worship, liturgical, traditional, children,
instrumental, seasonal and international. This site was developed
about five years ago by a group of radio personalities, youth ministers,
musicians, home schoolers and teachers etc. who were interested in
Catholic music. The primary goal of the site was to provide resources
to allow children to develop and express their faith meaningfully
through music. There are pictures of each album along with a brief
synopsis of the content. Topics of albums range from Mary to teaching
Catholicism. There are lists of artists, reviews of music selections,
top-sellers and current news about upcoming releases. Under the children
category, there are two selections that look especially interesting,
one has to do with the Life of Mary and the other is focused specifically
on the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Given that the Paschal Mystery
is at he core of our faith development and liturgical celebration
I think this would be great for any teacher of Grade Two students
or any leader within a church who helps children in their First Holy
Communion preparation.-- Gabrielle O'Reilly

Music New Releases
- This
website has a list of religious compact discs that are available.
The website is updated frequently with new releases. It is great if
you are looking for a particular song to tie in with a religious theme/unit
. It also gives you the option of purchasing on-line.--Diana Ianuzzi
- Chant
Links
- This
website gives information on Chant Choirs that are existing at this
time. It goes through the different choir groups that are representing
various cities as well as different recording companies. Chants for
religious holidays are also listed including both the prayer as well
as the chant. These chants can also be played over your computer assuming
that your computer is equipped with speakers. Explanations of the
chants are available. This website also contains links of interest
to Music chant sites other than religious ones including a Medieval
music link. There is also a link to the Catholic Resources on the
Net site that includes information on the mass, prayers, liturgy,
etc. This site would be beneficial to Catholic educators in that music
is definitely one of the ways that children respond to especially
when dealing with our religion and faith. It also acts as a way of
celebrating our unity in our religion.--S. DiGregorio

- This
website reinforces character building values through music and performance.
There are various types of music that children can sing along and
learn how to respect each other and bring awareness to their peers,
home and neighborhood. The music also emphasizes different themes
which are prevalent in schools, such are anti-bully, conflict resolution,
respect, self esteem, respect for others, respect for the earth, ways
to "BE" Peace, nonviolence, working together (cooperation),
positive Role Modeling, empowerment, and it gives HOPE!

Music Online
- Christian
Music Online is dedicated in providing the latest information on the
Christian Music world. Christian Music is music used to praise and
glorify God, who sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Whether
it is Contemporary, Praise/Worship, or other types of Christian Music,
there is plenty of music and information provided. This website can
be useful to teachers because depending on the grade level you teach,
some students find that children songs are too “babyish”.
This is an alternative and yet it still sends the same message.--Larry

- Christiansandmusic.com
- This
site is full of both articles and music ideas with the porpose of
soul development. It is an American site so some of the topics are
not Roman catolic in orientation. However some christian topics are
universal enough such as children and church. Some topics to also
explore on the site are what I would deem "current event"
issues but very relevant to today's catholic classrooms; 'What teenagers
think about church music' and 'Christian rock music'. Both could be
used as either part of the music curriculum or integrated as a stepping
off point for engaging youth in discussion about lack of interest
in church attendance and participation.
This site was quite article heavy so I have included an additional
site which caters exclusively to children's faith developmment. Together
the two would suit either a teacher or youth group minister or youth
group leader in a parish. This children-oriented site is called, www.kidsownworship.com
This latter site offers everything from message boards, to interactive
games, ideas for religious education at home, home schooling ideas,
Pastor message boards and lastly how to order music selections which
are individually described in a sentence or two. Emphasis for all
music selections and interactive activities is on how to foster and
promote faith development in children outside of church (in a fun
and participation driven way). Songs and curriculum links can be downloaded
for powerpoint presentations. All Cds are titled "Faith Weaver"--

- GIA
Music
- This
site offers the viewer an opportunity to order music related resources.
There are many criteria to chose from; styles, age groups, instruments,
knowledge levels etc. The viewer chooses what he or she is interested
in and is provided with related resources and brief descriptions of
them. There is also other information provided about GIA and excerpts
from the GIA quarterly magazine. If you need some music resources
and don't know where to look - check it out! -- A. Mitchell
- This
site explores sacred music in all its diversity on the GIA web site.
This music ranges from Gregorian chant to contemporary to gospel or
a combination. They are have high-quality resources for information
about hymnals, recordings, octavos, educational materials and calendars
-- Frank Pignataro The GIA Sacred Music site offers information on
educational materials as well as various resources for learning about
our faith through music. There is a "Hymn Du Jour" which
involves a response to a Bible excerpt that goes along with the current
religious celebration. There is also a commentary section which is
updated with older articles that may be accessed through the archives.
You are also able to download catalogues and subscribe to the GIA
magazine. What I found very interesting and beneficial for Catholic
educators was the area where workshops are made available. You can
choose from a set of topics such as skill sessions for various instruments
to drama and dance as well as lessons for seasonal music. Once you
find a topic you are able to choose a clinician (one of many) that
you would like to deliver the workshop. Once a clinician is downloaded,
that person's profile and background are available. These workshops
could help a whole school staff in bettering their ability to deliver
a quality as well as integrated music/religion program. --S.Di Gregorio

- National
Association of Pastoral Musicians – Liturgical Music Planning
- This
site is an excellent resource to use when planning Sunday liturgical
music. The site breaks the church years A, B, and C into seasons and
then into Sunday liturgies. They suggest hymns and psalms that are
related to the readings for that particular Sunday mass. The best
part is that they suggest over 20 hymns for each Sunday. The hymns
are taken from over 30 hymnals from Gather Comprehensive to the Catholic
Book of Worship III. This site can also be used to draw the music
and the readings from Sunday mass into the school week.--Alfred Cadawas

teachers or individuals putting together a special liturgy. The best
part is the ability to listen to some of the music tracks. - Ines
